Worms and DIRT!

It's spring!  In the spring we get to see all sorts of God's wonderful creations that have been hidden all winter!  One of those creations is the WORM!

I know . . . they're squirmy, and slimy, and a little gross, but they're a part of the world he created!  Today we painted with worms!

Don't worry:  They weren't real worms!  We used a string, and dipped it in brown paint, and then we dragged it all over some paper making "worm tracks".  After that we talked about our worm and where it's going.  LOTS of kids said that there worm was living in the dirt, but we had a few unique responses as well.  One said their worm is in Florida, one had a worm living in Heaven, one had a worm on it's way to the cabin, and another had a worm heading to their grandparents house!

Yep. . . those ugly brown lines are worm tracks. . .headed somewhere very special!  It may not be the prettiest art project your child's ever made, but it was sure fun to make it!

After we made our worm tracks we read a book all about worms.  About what they eat, and what makes them come out of the ground, why they're all slimy, and what they do in the bad weather.
After circle time and stories, we headed outside to eat our snack. . .because we were eating dirt and worms, and you can only find them outside!

Look at the excitement as they were anticipating their snack!  Miss Kelly got out some big blankets for our Dirt and Worm Picnic. . .and it was time to eat!

Their chocolatey smiles say it all!  Kids love to eat Dirt and Worms (also known as pudding and crushed Teddy Grahms with a gummy worm.)  I was surprised at how messy they all did NOT get!  For this being a pretty messy snack, they all were pretty neat eaters!  Nothing wipe or hand washing couldn't cure!  After our snack we got to run off some steam with a game of Red Light-Green Light, and then we played with the PullAparts!

The PullAparts were SUPER fun. . .and a bit confusing for some!  Miss Kelly was there to lend a hand and give an explanation, and others just totally got in and we watched that colorful torpedo go flying quickly up and down the string from one kid to another!

Today was a GREAT end to an awesome week!  We had so much fun with everything we did and the class time just flew right by!
