Worms and DIRT!

It's spring!  In the spring we get to see all sorts of God's wonderful creations that have been hidden all winter!  One of those creations is the WORM!

I know . . . they're squirmy, and slimy, and a little gross, but they're a part of the world he created!  Today we painted with worms!

Don't worry:  They weren't real worms!  We used a string, and dipped it in brown paint, and then we dragged it all over some paper making "worm tracks".  After that we talked about our worm and where it's going.  LOTS of kids said that there worm was living in the dirt, but we had a few unique responses as well.  One said their worm is in Florida, one had a worm living in Heaven, one had a worm on it's way to the cabin, and another had a worm heading to their grandparents house!

Yep. . . those ugly brown lines are worm tracks. . .headed somewhere very special!  It may not be the prettiest art project your child's ever made, but it was sure fun to make it!

After we made our worm tracks we read a book all about worms.  About what they eat, and what makes them come out of the ground, why they're all slimy, and what they do in the bad weather.
After circle time and stories, we headed outside to eat our snack. . .because we were eating dirt and worms, and you can only find them outside!

Look at the excitement as they were anticipating their snack!  Miss Kelly got out some big blankets for our Dirt and Worm Picnic. . .and it was time to eat!

Their chocolatey smiles say it all!  Kids love to eat Dirt and Worms (also known as pudding and crushed Teddy Grahms with a gummy worm.)  I was surprised at how messy they all did NOT get!  For this being a pretty messy snack, they all were pretty neat eaters!  Nothing wipe or hand washing couldn't cure!  After our snack we got to run off some steam with a game of Red Light-Green Light, and then we played with the PullAparts!

The PullAparts were SUPER fun. . .and a bit confusing for some!  Miss Kelly was there to lend a hand and give an explanation, and others just totally got in and we watched that colorful torpedo go flying quickly up and down the string from one kid to another!

Today was a GREAT end to an awesome week!  We had so much fun with everything we did and the class time just flew right by!

Lady Bugs!

DID YOU KNOW:

There are nearly 5000 types of lady bugs world wide!
That 400 of those live in North America!
The female lady bug us larger than the male!
A female ladybug lays more than 1000 eggs in her lifetime!
The life cycle of a lady bug is 4 to 6 weeks!
Most lady bugs are red with black spots, but SOME are black with red spots!
Some ladybugs have NO spots at all!
The spots on a lady bug fade as they get older!

In Miss Amy's class we learned all about ladybugs!  Most about color, and shape, and how cute they are!  We even made our very own lady bugs too!

The kids cut out the shapes, and colored the dots, and added the eyes, and made it all their own!

They even made a SECOND lady bug as well!  And this time they ate it!

We sure had fun learning about ladybugs this week!

Dino Days!

This week we learned all about DINOSAURS!  Did you know that they are a part of God's wonderful creation?!

We made a pet dinosaur of our very own!  We talked about what we would do with our dinosaur and where we would go.  Dinosaurs make a GREAT way to get around!  We don't even have to put gas in them to make them go!

We also talked about VOLCANOS!  The best way to describe a volcano is to show the kids!  So we made our own volcano and watched it erupt!  The kids thought this was REALLY cool!

Check out that volcanic action!  You can't really see in the picture, but we really got that thing to blow pink foam out the top!  It was cool!  The kids were all curious how we made it work.

Another REALLY fun activity is going on a DINO DIG!  We pretended to be archaelogists, we grabbed our picks, and dug into some "dirt" to look for bones!

It was some pretty tasty dirt!  The dirt was our snack today as well!  The kids dug and ate, and dug and ate, and then they dug and ate some more!  I mean who doesn't like chocolate cake?!  I personally would have hoped for a side of frosting, but they were quite content looking for Dinosaur bones and eating dirt!

I have to say, I expected a much larger mess than this.  They were pretty tidy with their crumbs.  Most were confined to the table. . .and their mouths.

All in all, we had a DELICIOUS day!
